We're Hiring: Lead Ecologist – Shape a New Ecology Service Within Our Landscape Practice

Location: Shrewsbury | Full-time | Flexible/Hybrid Working Available

We’re an award-winning UK-basedlandscape architecture practicelooking to bring ecology in-house — and we’re offering an exceptional opportunity for a skilled ecologist tobuild and lead a new ecology departmentas part of our expanding multidisciplinary team.

This is your chance toestablish and grow a service from the ground up, working alongside landscape architects, urban designers, and planners on some of the UK’s most forward-thinking and environmentally responsible projects.

About the Role

You will:

  • Lead the development of our new ecology service offering
  • Provide ecological input across all project stages — from baseline surveys to design integration, mitigation strategies, planning support and ecological clerk of works
  • Deliver services including Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEAs), EcIA, protected species surveys, and BNG assessments in line with the Environment Act
  • Collaborate with our design teams to champion nature-based solutions and enhance biodiversity in both urban and rural settings
  • Contribute to business development, project proposals, and client engagement

About You

  • Degree-qualified ecologist witha minimum of 5 years’ professional experience, ideally in consultancy or multi-disciplinary environments
  • Strong knowledge of UK wildlife legislation, planning policy, and BNG requirements
  • Experience in protected species surveys, mitigation design, and ecological reporting
  • Comfortable working independently and with the initiative to shape new processes, systems, and services
  • Membership of CIEEM (or working towards) and holding protected species licences (e.g., bat, GCN) is desirable
  • A confident communicator who enjoys collaboration and wants to make a long-term impact
