Location: Porton Down, Salisbury - full-time on-site
Duration: 3 months
Pay-rate: £527 per day Inside IR35
Job Description:

The Ecologist will be responsible for ecology across the PTN Estate, developing a rural estates plan to ensure the ecological needs of the estate are met without impacting organizational activities. The Ecological Officer reports to the Rural Estate Manager and is accountable for managing and delivering objectives within the Client PTN Stone Curlew Conservation Project. They will also ensure the maintenance and management of the Porton Down Site of Scientific Interest (SSSI), Special Protection Area (SPA), and Special Area of Conservation (SAC) in compliance with legislation and client policies.

Essential qualifications and skills:
  • Degree or equivalent in ecology
  • Understanding of CLIENT procedures
  • Experience in land management operations and best practices
  • Experience maintaining SSSI, SPA, and SAC sites, ensuring they remain in favorable condition and compliant with legislation
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations such as the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, Conservation of Habitats and Species Regulations 2017, and Environment Act 2021
  • Strong practical knowledge of conservation and rural management
  • Ability to develop relationships with key stakeholders
  • Proactive and collaborative working style
  • Customer service orientation to coordinate with colleagues and contractors
Desirable qualifications:
  • City & Guilds or equivalent in Agricultural, Forestry, or Land Management
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
