Everything You Need to Know

Our Customer Operations team has an opportunity for new Ecologists.

We are seeking multiple ecologists for various counties. Please specify your preferred locations in your application.

You’ll support our Biodiversity and Ecology Team, working closely with Senior Ecologists and the wider business to provide ecological advice, including Biodiversity Net Gain.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess ecological risks and opportunities in asset design, construction, and maintenance
  • Develop strategies to avoid/mitigate harm in schemes
  • Ensure licenses and controls meet species and habitat obligations
  • Contribute to standards, guidance, and training to support biodiversity protection and compliance
  • Undertake ecological field surveys and site inspections
  • Maintain and analyze ecological data for future insights
  • Manage ecological contractors
  • Support incident response with ecological expertise
  • Build relationships with agencies like the Environment Agency and Natural England
  • Support R&D into ecological outcomes within Severn Trent and across water companies

What You’ll Bring:

Knowledge of species and habitat conservation challenges, policies, and legislation. Licenses for protected species are preferred.

Relevant degree in ecology or a related field, and membership or progress towards membership of a professional body.

Experience with Biodiversity Net Gain and GIS systems, including UKHAB.

Excellent communication skills, a full UK driving license, and a positive, caring attitude. We welcome applicants of all experience levels, including recent graduates.
