We are currently seeking experienced Freelance Ecologists to support ongoing ecological survey and assessment work across the Thames Water operational region. This is an excellent opportunity for skilled, self-employed ecologists with availability for flexible fieldwork and a strong background in protected species surveys.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEAs) and Phase 1 Habitat Surveys
• Undertake protected species surveys, including:
• eDNA sampling for Great Crested Newts (GCNs)
• Bat emergence/activity surveys
• Dormouse nest tube or footprint tunnel surveys
• Submit field data and contribute to ecological reports
• Support EPS licence applications and mitigation strategies where applicable
• Liaise with project managers and other stakeholders as required

Requirements

• Proven experience in field ecology, ideally with consultancy or infrastructure project experience
• Holding or working under relevant Natural England survey licences (GCN, bats, dormice) is highly desirable
• Confident conducting surveys independently and producing high-quality field data

Must have:

• Own survey equipment
• Full UK driving licence and own transport
• Flexibility to travel across London and the Thames Valley
• Desirable: valid CSCS card, ECoW experience, or prior work within utility/infrastructure sectors
