Ecologist

Rate: Up to £500 a day inside IR35

Contract Length: 6 Months (with potential for 2-3 years of work)

Location: Glasgow

We are seeking an Ecologist to work within a Rail environment on infrastructure projects. You will collaborate with site teams and supervisors to assess ecological needs, identify invasive species, and provide advice on management strategies.

Your responsibilities will include:

  1. Assessing outputs and reviewing data from environmental assessments.
  2. Conducting site visits to evaluate ecological conditions, including areas under Rail furniture and along routes.
  3. Determining if a licence is required and identifying the appropriate licence.
  4. Applying for licences from Nature Scotland (formerly Scottish Natural Heritage).

You may also provide advice on:

  • Great Crested Newts
  • Bats

It is essential that you hold a PTS certification or have the capacity to obtain one, as this is a requirement in the Rail environment. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience working with Nature Scotland and be familiar with the licence application process.
