Eco Crime Risk Assurance Senior Specialist

Business Unit: Economic Crime Risk

Our team

You'll be part of a team of assurance professionals helping the bank meet its legal and regulatory obligations by conducting timely Thematic Reviews, Ongoing Assurance, and Close and Continuous systems assurance activities across all elements of Economic Crime (Fraud, Anti-Money Laundering, Counter-Terrorist Financing, Tax Evasion, Bribery and Corruption, Proliferation Financing, and Sanctions Evasion).

What you'll be doing

  • Act as a key subject matter expert in designing and executing systems assurance activities to ensure the bank's Controls are keeping customers safe and Economic Crime systems are effective, including payment screening, client screening, Transaction Monitoring, Customer Risk Assessment systems, and fraud prevention and detection systems.
  • Plan, develop, and execute an effective risk-based annual Economic Crime Assurance Programme to include Fraud and Financial Crime systems-related thematic reviews and ongoing assurance activity.
  • Complete planned systems assurance reviews on time and to the required quality using Economic Crime subject matter expertise to ensure control design and operation is efficient and effective.
  • Demonstrate understanding of the Bank's customers, products, channels, and business areas, and the associated Economic Crime risks.
  • Identify control weaknesses and areas for improvement to enhance the Bank's Economic Crime framework.
  • Deliver independent testing of all parts of a defence system, including data lineage/mapping, data reconciliation, rule/model calibration, change management, and governance.
  • Proactively analyze trends and systems capability, making recommendations for rules or systems enhancements, and identify control weaknesses through Ongoing Assurance activity.
  • Consistently produce targeted, high-quality written and verbal communication at the senior management level.
  • Work with Assurance, Audit, and Systems teams to ensure that Economic Crime Assurance Plans are understood.
  • Feed Assurance findings into the future risk-based Economic Crime Assurance plan for VMUK.

We need you to have

  • Ideally, a minimum of 5 years of experience in Financial Services working in a financial crime/fraud analytical role, managing and analyzing large quantities of complex data.
  • A proven track record of high professional standards involving research and analytical skills, with the ability to analyze data and communicate technical and regulatory matters in a non-technical manner.
  • SQL knowledge and practical experience with SAS are beneficial.
  • Experience in performance testing of Financial Crime systems and data feeds.
  • Experience as an Economic Crime SME with extensive knowledge of relevant regulations, risks, threats, and landscape.

It's a bonus if you have, but not essential

  • Good understanding of Economic Crime risk identification, assessment, and measurement principles.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, adapting style to a wide range of people across the bank.
  • A good understanding of the bank's customers, products, channels, and business areas, and the associated economic crime risks.
