Job description

The post holder will be responsible for supporting the Advanced Echo Service, including Stress Echo, Bubble/Contrast Studies, and Transoesophageal echocardiograms, and be able to:

  • Assist in providing specialist nursing advice to support high-quality, individualized care to patients/clients and their families/carers, working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team in line with local and national targets.
  • Deputise for their line manager in managing their clinical specialty, handling various situations and taking appropriate actions in different settings.
  • Be flexible in approach to the clinical area and provide cover as needed, acting as a professional role model through direct and indirect clinical care, teaching, and research.
  • Support the service by attending multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings.
Main duties of the job
  1. Triaging referrals into each pathway, coordinating relevant investigations, and preparing for MDT discussions.
  2. Coordinating and supporting inpatient and outpatient pathways, liaising with specialist teams including cardiothoracic, anesthetic, interventional, HF, pulmonary hypertension, and ICU.
  3. Maintaining clinical databases to support workflow, audit, and research projects.
  4. Achieving Level 1 echocardiogram training and accreditation.
  5. Developing nurse-led clinics for valve patients over time.
  6. Opportunities to develop further teaching and training skills, encouraged as part of a teaching hospital environment.
