Job Description

OLD OAK AND PARK ROYAL DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION (OPDC)

Planning Committee Member

Appointment to the Planning Committee of the Old Oak and Park Royal Development Corporation (OPDC).

The Old Oak and Park Royal Development Corporation (OPDC) is the Mayor of London’s statutory regeneration agency and local planning authority. Our task is to ensure the £1.7bn investment in HS2’s Old Oak Common Station catalyses a successful, sustainable, and substantial regenerated district in our part of west London. This project is on a scale comparable to the largest regeneration projects of recent decades.

Covering 650 hectares, including the Park Royal industrial estate, the Grand Union Canal, and extensive development sites, Old Oak and Park Royal has the potential to deliver over 25,000 homes and tens of thousands of jobs, generating an estimated £7.5bn to the London and UK economy.

We are seeking a new independent member for our Planning Committee who shares our passion for creating a vibrant urban district with thousands of new homes, jobs, and amenities for local communities and newcomers.

You will join at an exciting time, with our delivery team currently in pre-application discussions for the Old Oak masterplan, which includes 9,000 homes, 11,000 jobs, and three million square feet of commercial space.

With nearly 6,000 homes already built or under construction, and a pipeline of over 6,000 more, our planning committee will play a crucial role in ensuring these plans and all new developments align with our vision, providing high-quality design, sustainability, and inclusivity. You will collaborate with other independents and local borough representatives to determine planning applications, support our Local Plan review, and contribute to planning policies and guidance.

This role offers an opportunity for individuals committed to improving Londoners' lives, supporting the capital’s growth, and contributing to the UK’s economic prospects.

The time commitment includes an initial training session, monthly in-person Planning Committee meetings, monthly online briefings, and quarterly site visits.

Applicants should have a strong commitment to West London and its communities and be capable of operating in a high-profile, publicly accountable environment, ideally with relevant experience in planning, development, legal, or regeneration sectors.

OPDC values diversity and encourages applications from women and underrepresented groups on our Planning Committee.
