A BAM apprenticeship is a full-time earn-and-learn position, where you will be involved in delivering multimillion-pound projects. Leave a lasting legacy and positive change in our communities.

On completion of a Level 2 apprenticeship, you will have the opportunity to progress to further learning and leadership training to work towards becoming a future Works Manager.

What you'll be doing

As a Groundworker Apprentice, you’ll learn essential skills to support construction projects, including:

  • Preparing and levelling construction sites.
  • Laying foundations, drainage systems, and concrete.
  • Operating and maintaining tools and equipment.
  • Following health and safety protocols on-site.
  • Working as part of a team to complete various groundwork tasks.

You’ll gain hands-on experience while working towards a Level 2 Groundworker Apprenticeship with the support of experienced mentors and on-the-job training.

Our projects cover all types of infrastructure, from rail and road to work on behalf of the Environment Agency and National Grid.

What you'll need

Academic requirements

  • GCSEs in Maths and English with grade 5 or above are desirable, but you will have the opportunity to build on your academic achievements during the apprenticeship.
  • To be eligible, you must not already hold a similar qualification at the same level.

Additional requirements

  • A driving licence would be desirable, or the ability to learn and access a vehicle during the apprenticeship, as many projects are not accessible via public transport.
  • Due to the industry nature, you may be required to move away to work on projects. BAM supports this by paying a living away allowance.
