Job summary

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) invites qualified performance psychologists to join the England men’s pathway. The role focuses on developing psychologically informed environments across England Lions and Young Lions, supporting coaches and multidisciplinary staff to embed psychological practice in daily training and competition.

We seek Chartered Psychologists with elite sport experience who can deliver assessments, interventions and wellbeing support.

Qualifications

• Chartered Psychologist with HCPC registration and senior-level sport psychology experience.
• Expertise in psychological assessment, profiling, formulation and intervention.
• Experience supporting athletes and multi-disciplinary teams in elite sport.
• Excellent communication, facilitation and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Ability to influence senior coaches and key stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Design and deliver evidence-based psychological development across England Lions and England Young Lions.
• Conduct screening and performance profiling against a pre-determined framework.
• Provide individual and team interventions to enhance performance and wellbeing.
• Support transitions between pathways and collaboration with medical/science teams.
• Develop resources and contribute to continuous improvement in performance psychology.

Job Description

PURPOSE

The ECB is seeking an experienced Performance Psychologist(s) to support the development and performance of players, coaches, programme leads and multidisciplinary staff across the England Men’s International Pathway. Working across England Lions and England Young Lions, the role will help create psychologically informed environments that accelerate player development, strengthen international readiness and support performance. The practitioner will contribute to a connected pathway approach, ensuring players are well supported through key transitions and equipped to thrive in elite performance environments.

DELIVERY MODEL

We are open to either one practitioner working across both England Lions and England Young Lions for approximately 180 days or two practitioners working approximately 90 days each, aligned to England Lions and England Young Lions respectively.

Practitioners will report in the ECB Men's Performance Psychology Panel

YOU’LL BE DOING

Psychological Environment Development

Enhance psychologically informed environments across England Lions and England Young Lions.

Support Head Coaches, Assistant Coaches and multidisciplinary staff to integrate psychological principles into daily practice.

Embed psychological development through informed co-designed practice with the aim of improve player development, learning and performance outcomes.

Player Assessment and Profiling

Design and conduct psychological screening and performance profiling assessments (against a pre-determined psychological framework).

Deliver comprehensive psychological formulations for high-potential players.

Develop and maintain a robust understanding of pathway players and emerging talent.

Individual and Team Performance Support

Deliver evidence-based psychological interventions to targeted players of potential.

Deliver team-based interventions that enhance performance, communication, leadership and team functioning.

Facilitate workshops and psycho-educational programmes that enhance self-reliance, resilience and performance behaviours.

Player Wellbeing and Integrated Support

Work collaboratively with the Clinical Psychologist, Performance Science and Medicine staff and external support providers.

Participate in case formulation discussions and wellbeing forums where appropriate.

Contribute to holistic support plans, including injury rehabilitation and return-to-play planning.

Transition and Pathway Development

Support player transitions between County, Young Lions, Lions and England Senior environments.

Work closely with Player Identification, Pathway and Performance staff to ensure continuity of support.

County Collaboration and System Impact

Build strong relationships with county psychologists, coaches and support practitioners.

Develop and disseminate evidence-informed and best practice resources, and guidance materials to support the delivery of performance psychology provision in academies

Research, Innovation and Continuous Improvement

Contribute to knowledge development projects and applied research initiatives.

Maintain awareness of current research and developments in performance psychology, neuroscience and talent development.

Contribute to programme planning, delivery and review cycles.

YOU’LL HAVE

Chartered Psychologist and registered with HCPC, or equivalent recognised accreditation.

Significant experience delivering performance psychology within elite sport and/or talent development environments.

Demonstrable experience supporting athletes, coaches and multidisciplinary teams.

Expertise in psychological assessment, profiling, formulation and intervention.

Experience supporting player transitions and long-term athlete development.

Excellent communication, facilitation and relationship-building skills.

Ability to influence senior coaches and key stakeholders.

Experience operating effectively in complex, high-performance environments.

Experience within professional cricket or international sport.

Understanding of adolescent and young adult development.

Experience working as part of integrated Science and Medicine teams.

Experience supporting organisational and cultural development within performance systems.
