The Finance Manager

Manages a small team of finance administrators in the Polymers business, ensuring robust internal controls and full compliance, with a focus on managing business cash flow. Reporting to the Polymers Finance Director, this role offers an opportunity to support the growth of Biffa Polymers and implement meaningful process improvements during a new system implementation.

Your core responsibilities

1. Cash forecasting and reporting in line with group guidelines, including bank reconciliations and cash book postings.
2. Lead the period-end timetable, ensuring all scheduled tasks are completed, including reconciling and verifying general ledger balances monthly.
3. Coordinate the preparation and submission of quarterly returns, including VAT and Waste Management.
4. Manage the intercompany process and resolve related queries.
5. Handle ledger management and Balance Sheet reconciliation.
6. Own the Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable processes within the Polymers subdivision.
7. Liaise with commercial and financial staff to identify and resolve financial issues.
8. Review and improve processes and systems proactively.
9. Manage the Fixed Asset Register and monitor compliance with IFRS16.
10. Lead and coach three direct reports and contribute to the development of the wider finance team.

Minimum qualifications and experience

• Part-qualified accountant (ACCA or CIMA).
• Experience supporting operational colleagues across multiple locations.
• Strong system skills, including advanced Excel and some Power BI.
• Strong analytical skills for interpreting financial data, identifying trends, and making strategic recommendations.
• Experience in management accounting within the service, logistics, or waste industries is advantageous.
