A role within the Highways Development Control Team at a leading council in Greater London, focusing on overseeing safe demolition and construction management. The successful applicant will ensure compliance with legislation and work closely with various stakeholders, contributing to community safety and development. Hybrid working is supported, with a strong emphasis on negotiation and collaboration.
This post is within the Highways Development Control Team. The role will focus on overseeing the safe and efficient management of demolition and construction associated with approved planning applications.
In April 2023, the London Borough of Tower Hamlets adopted a new Code of Construction Practice. In October 2023, the Council introduced a charge for the assessment, approval, and monitoring of Demolition and Construction Management Plans. This post will report to a Principal Engineer and involve dealing with these new processes.
The successful applicant should have experience in applying relevant Highway and Planning legislation and knowledge of how development impacts the local highway and community. The role involves ensuring all demolition and construction activities are conducted safely, legally, and with minimal impact on the highway network, its users, and local residents. There may also be opportunities to assess planning applications from a highways perspective.
Reporting to the Team Leader Highways Development Control and the Principal Engineer (CMP), the postholder will work closely with colleagues in other highway disciplines, Environmental Health, and Planning. Attendance at site visits will be necessary to ensure compliance with approved documents and planning conditions, and the ability to negotiate with developers and contractors is essential.
Hybrid working is supported, but presence in the office is required.
Details on the Council's Code of Construction Practice and CMP process can be found here.
