OUR CLIENT is focused on growing an exciting new asset class. They are a vertically integrated real assets business, combining traditional acquisition, development, and leasing activity with operational capabilities including sourcing, securing, and delivering smart energy systems. They are building critical operational infrastructure to support the decarbonisation of commercial transport. With 44 sites already operational—including 4 development sites across Britain and Western Europe—and a broader vision to deploy extensive (£Billions) of capital to grow a consolidated portfolio, it is an exciting time.

As they move to their next phase, they now seek to hire for the newly created role of Financial Controller.

The new Finance Controller will initially focus on financial management of the UK portfolio and related SPVs, reviewing current outsourcing providers and accounting software to optimise processes cost-effectively. Additionally, it will act as a thought partner to the COO/CFO, leadership team, and other stakeholders on finance matters. The role will be based in W1 post-summer 2025.

THE ROLE: RESPONSIBILITIES of the FINANCIAL CONTROLLER include but are not limited to:

• Ensuring smooth reporting, loan structuring, and coordination with outsourced service providers to support portfolio operations.
• Supporting leadership with analysis, interpretation, and insights regarding financial health of assets.
• Accounting / Audit: Ensuring accurate and timely maintenance of accounting records according to relevant standards (e.g., UK GAAP), managing outsourced providers efficiently.
• Managing audit processes to ensure timely completion with no major issues.
• Financial Reporting: Preparing statutory, Board, investor, and business reports.
• FP&A: Collaborating with Asset Management to manage financial and cash flow plans, budgets, reforecasts, variance analysis, and financial performance reviews.
• Treasury: Overseeing banking, cash forecasting, loan management, lender reporting, covenant compliance, and financing activities.
• Valuation: Managing finance aspects of valuation processes and controls.
• Tax & Compliance: Optimising tax structures, managing tax filings, ensuring legal compliance, and liaising with external advisors.
• Transaction Support: Providing financial and tax support for transactions, mitigating risks, and structuring optimally.
• Finance Technology: Driving improvements in financial systems, controls, and reporting tools, managing vendors and automation initiatives.

THE PERSON: SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:

• Drive, enthusiasm, mental agility, and experience handling PE investor relations within a senior finance team.
• Strong academic background with a relevant accounting qualification (ACA/ACCA) and at least 4+ years of post-qualification experience.
• Experience working in high-performing teams, ideally in fast-paced private equity environments.
• Experience in the real estate sector (essential).
• Proficiency with UK GAAP, IFRS, financial statements, and consolidations.
• Experience managing third-party service providers and SLAs.
• Familiarity with complex tax structures, SPVs, fund reporting, cross-border funds, multi-entity structures, and European jurisdictions.
• Deep experience in process transformation and onboarding new accounting systems.
• Excellent communication skills for liaising with stakeholders and managing outsourced teams.
• Strategic thinking and ability to provide financial insights for decision-making.
