Job summary

The Uro-Oncology Cancer Nurse Specialist role focuses on meeting the needs of cancer patients, ensuring patient-centered care. The role involves providing specialist nursing advice as a clinical expert to support high-quality, individualized care for patients, relatives, and carers with Urology cancer, in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, aligning with local and national targets. The post also leads and manages the nursing specialist service, developing and coordinating the service, incorporating clinical practice, leadership, audit, and education. The postholder is accountable for managing resources effectively to deliver compassionate care within the team.

Main duties of the job

  1. Work as a key member of the Uro-Oncology team to improve care for patients with suspected or confirmed Urology Cancer.
  2. Collaborate across Trust directorates and primary care to ensure continuity of care and seamless service delivery.
  3. Attend weekly multidisciplinary team meetings (MDT) representing patients and referring patients to the specialist team for discussion, following up on MDT actions.
  4. Engage in daily team communication to negotiate, motivate, and challenge team workings to meet care pathways and government targets.
  5. Utilize leadership, clinical expertise, education, and management skills to support patients and improve services.
  6. Manage a team of Uro-Oncology clinical specialist nurses and a cancer support worker, working closely with cancer services and MDT coordinators to ensure safe patient care management.
  7. Establish and maintain professional relationships with patients and colleagues, requiring high emotional effort daily.
