Job Title: Senior Site Manager

Reports To: Senior Project Manager

Business Unit: UK Construction

Office Location: Birmingham

Project Location:Coventry

Construction North is part of the UK Construction business and includes the Midlands, the North and Scotland. Projects on average range between £5 - £50 million and are primarily based in the Public Sector with some projects in the Private Sector. Sectors include Leisure, Justice, Defence, Education, Health and Commercial offices.

Role Purpose

To deliver a quality service and product to our clients in line with the project goals by working with the project team and applying ISG culture, systems and procedures. Specifically, to manage the building services engineering design/installation process and to minimise risks associated with this to the project and to the company.

Key Accountabilities

Communication & Leadership

  • To work in close cooperation with the ISG Project Manager/Director, Design manger, Building Services Manager and commercial team on all aspects of the construction project.

  • To offer high level strategic thinking at a project level and communicate this throughout the project team.

  • To produce precise and succinct project reports for both internal and external distribution

  • To chair trade contractor meetings

  • To proactively maintain and support the marketing relationships with external professionals and clients

Health & Safety

  • Take a lead role for Health & Safety in accordance with the minimum standards set out in the Regions Management System

  • Proactively work with the Health & Safety department to ensure standards are maintained and full compliance with the safety management system is achieved

  • To work closely with the Construction team and Health & Safety manager in planning the works

  • Maintain an up to date knowledge of Health & Safety requirements.

  • Actively promote health and safety best practice

Commercial

  • Work in close cooperation with the project commercial team

  • Contribute to detailed package scoping documents for subcontract procurement.

  • Ensure contract communications are carried out in a professional and contractually correct manner.

  • Ensure proper project record keeping is maintained.

Planning

  • Develop and continually monitor detailed contract programmes in conjunction with the project planner

  • To develop and monitor short term works programmes, e.g. area or trade specific.

  • To carry out forward planning exercises identifying constraints that could affect the programme / project and formulate solutions.

  • To produce logistic plans and method statements

Technical & Design

  • To identify problems and offer solutions prior to and during construction

  • To review design and shop drawings and contribute where necessary, liaising with the relevant design teams.

  • To suggest trade contractors, systems and manufacturers for team appraisal

  • Have a good understanding of M&E systems and their integration with building trades.

  • To be conversant with common management and programming software and proactively engage in new, relevant computer technology.

Quality

  • Be suitably experienced to recognise quality issues on site and be able to implement rectification measures.

  • Interpret specifications and ensure compliance on site

  • Implement ISG's Zero Defects and Customer Experience Initiatives

  • Promote the company quality test and inspection procedure at all levels and ensure project compliance.

Skills & Experience

  • Previous experience of successfully carrying out similar roles to a high quality. Management experience in construction industry

  • Comprehensive awareness of health & safety, CDM and environmental legislation and good practice

  • IOSH Managing Safely or CITB equivalent (Minimum)

  • General knowledge of contracts (Minimum)

  • General knowledge of IT (MS Office, Power project and/or Asta, Web based document sharing etc.) (Minimum)

  • In addition to general knowledge of common building and service trade, has greater in-depth knowledge and expertise in some specific areas e.g. joinery, cable wall systems, security

  • Key communication skills necessary to maintain and develop client relationships.

  • Key skills in project planning and time management and effective communication to manage site-based project personnel.

  • Experienced in running effective and productive meetings with a range of key stakeholders, internal and external

  • Excellent time management and organisational skills

Qualifications

  • Recognised qualification, preferably in construction management, structural or civil engineering.

  • HNC in Construction / Building (Minimum)

  • BSc / NVQ 5 (Preferred)

  • MCIOB (Preferred)

  • CSCS Contract Manager's Card

  • IOSH Managing Safely or CITB equivalent (Minimum)
