Head of GenAI Engineering
National: £120,000 - £140,000 / London: £140,000 - £160,000

This senior-level Generative AI (GenAI) leadership role focuses on driving strategic AI transformation within the insurance industry. It blends deep technical knowledge with business acumen, regulatory insight, and the ability to lead cross-functional teams. The role plays a key part in shaping the future of insurance through scalable, ethical, and innovative GenAI solutions.

A bit about the job:

This role leads the strategic design and implementation of Generative AI solutions across insurance functions such as underwriting, claims, and customer service. It requires a blend of deep technical expertise, domain knowledge, and change leadership to drive digital transformation in a regulated enterprise environment.
  • Lead AI strategy aligned with underwriting, claims, and customer experience goals
  • Oversee full-stack GenAI solution development and enterprise integration
  • Champion responsible AI, regulatory compliance, and engineering culture transformation
  • Collaborate across IT, legal, risk, and product teams to drive adoption

Skills and experience we're looking for:
  • Strategic AI leadership with insurance domain expertise. Experience aligning GenAI initiatives with insurance operations like underwriting, claims, and fraud detection. Ability to translate complex AI capabilities into measurable business outcomes
  • Full-stack GenAI and ML engineering proficiency. Hands-on knowledge of LLM integration, RAG pipelines, and cloud-based model deployment. Familiar with LangChain, vector databases (Pinecone, Weaviate), and secure API usage
  • Enterprise change management and modernization. Led modernization of legacy tech stacks and upskilled cross-functional teams. Skilled at building alignment across IT, data, risk, and executive leadership
  • Responsible AI, risk, and compliance alignment. Deep understanding of AI governance, model explainability, and regulatory frameworks (e.g., HIPAA, GDPR). Experience building internal guardrails for safe, auditable GenAI use
  • Visionary leadership and talent strategy. Track record of attracting, mentoring, and retaining top AI talent. Proven ability to scale teams and foster a culture of ethical innovation and continuous learning

  • National salary £120,000 - £140,000 and London salary £140,000 - £160,000 (depending on location, skills, experience, and qualifications)
  • Bonus opportunity - 25% of annual salary Actual amount depends on your performance and Aviva's.
