Job Summary

The Ministry of Defence employs over 50,000 Civil Servants. Within that, the Army Top Level Budget (TLB) employs around 7,000 MOD Civil Servants located at over 300 locations. Ours is a diverse workforce, with roles ranging from trainers, human resources, teachers, and psychologists to storekeepers, financiers, project and programme managers, and policy secretariat staff. There are many different functions and professions delivering key outputs for the Army.

14th Regiment Royal Artillery provides a foundation of excellence, preparing new Gunners for their initial regimental employment and supporting the training and development of the wider Royal Regiment. It is located within Larkhill Garrison, north of the City of Salisbury, Wiltshire.

The Regiment delivers a wide range of Initial Trade Training activity (for Royal Artillery soldiers and officers) and facilitates Subsequent Trade Training and Equipment Support for the Royal School of Artillery. The Regiment also delivers experimentation and innovation for the Royal Regiment, working closely with Land Warfare Centre’s Experimentation and Trials Group, alongside other cap badges and capabilities.

This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and Adaptable individual who likes to make a difference to people’s lives, to join a very active admin team. As one of a team of HR Clerks providing pay and allowance administration, guidance and support to a selection of Soldiers and Officers assigned to the Royal School of Artillery and administered by 14 Regt RA.

The successful candidate will need to be organised, a good communicator with great in-interpersonal skills as well as a self-starter.

You will have the opportunity to work in a mixed team of military and civil servants as part of a wider Regimental Headquarters’ team. This exciting and fulfilling role is located in Larkhill.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

Job Description

The responsibilities of this post will include, but not limited to, the following:

  • Perform arrivals checks on all individuals assigned to the unit, ensuring that their record is correct and adjusting as required. Review pay, allowances and charges to ensure that they are paid at the correct rates in accordance with current regulations. This process is normally to be completed within 7 days of arrival in the unit.
  • Input occurrences for Service Personnel ensuring that they are properly authorised in accordance with regulations and that all supporting documentation is held.
  • Perform Management Checks as directed by the Regimental Admin Warrant Officer and Finance Staff Sargent (Military Adjutant's General Corp team leaders). This will include the investigation of anomalies, taking remedial action and, where necessary, reporting issues to the chain of command.
  • Provide support and regulation-based advice to all Service Personnel covering Pay, Allowances, Charges and Self-Service. This includes advice on the input of all Expenses and allowances.
  • Collate and maintain personal documents for Service Personnel, carrying out detailed checks for correctness This includes checks of ID cards and ID discs and applying for replacements as required.
  • Checking the Pay Statements of Service personnel to ensure that all new and outstanding observations have been correctly actioned or any discrepancies are to be referred to the chain of command.

Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and home-based working. This is a non-contractual arrangement where all employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in attendance. Requirements to attend other locations for official business, or carry out detached duty in another MOD workplace, will also count towards this level of attendance. Person specification

The successful candidates will be versatile with a flexible approach to accommodate the constantly evolving needs of the service persons administrative requirements. This will consist of conducting daily administration duties and being the point of contact for military personnel whilst adhering to the policies and regulations.
