Job description

Overview

A warm, organised and welcoming family based in West London is seeking an experienced, professional nanny to care for their two daughters, aged 4.5 years and 9 months.

The family’s current nanny, who has been with them for three years, will be leaving in January. They are therefore seeking an experienced long-term nanny to provide a smooth transition and become a valued, trusted part of the household.

This is a shared-care position, with the nanny working closely alongside the mother as part of a collaborative team to support the children’s daily routines and overall care. The role will focus primarily on the baby during the day, with care of both children after school.

The working schedule will be Monday to Friday, approximately 7:45 am–6:00 pm. The family travels internationally and requires a nanny who is happy to accompany them, including for two to three weeks in the United States each year, as well as occasional additional family holidays.

The family would love to find a mature, level-headed and reliable nanny with extensive experience. They value a nanny who is warm but not overly excitable; someone who can build a lovely rapport with the children, provide structure and firm but kind boundaries, and remain composed and dependable throughout a busy family day.

Responsibilities
  • Providing loving, attentive and developmentally appropriate care for both children.
  • Taking primary responsibility for the baby during the day.
  • Caring for both children after school and supporting the afternoon and evening routines.
  • Planning engaging, age-appropriate activities, outings and educational play for both children.

  • Encouraging creativity through arts and crafts, imaginative play and other activities aligned with the eldest child’s
  • Supporting early learning through enjoyable, structured phonics, literacy and maths activities.
  • Following and maintaining consistent routines, boundaries and expectations in a positive, non-punitive way.
  • Preparing healthy, nutritious vegetarian meals and snacks for the children.
  • Preparing breakfast items for the following day.
  • Laying out school uniform and ensuring the children’s bags and essentials are organised and ready for the next morning.
  • Managing all nursery duties, including children’s laundry, keeping bedrooms and play areas tidy, rotating toys, and keeping children’s supplies well stocked.
  • Researching and arranging age-appropriate activities, classes and outings.
  • Communicating clearly and professionally with the parents regarding routines, development, activities and day-to-day matters.
  • Supporting the family during travel, including maintaining routines and ensuring the children are settled and well cared for away from home.
Qualifications
  • A minimum of 5 years’ professional nanny experience within private households.
  • Strong experience caring for both babies and young school-aged children.
  • A mature, calm and emotionally intelligent approach to childcare.
  • Excellent understanding of early-years development and age-appropriate routines.
  • Confidence supporting early education, including phonics, reading, writing and maths.
  • A Norland qualification, or equivalent professional childcare training, is essential.
  • Previous long-term experience with one family, demonstrating commitment and reliability.
  • Experience travelling with families, including international travel, is essential.
  • A confident swimmer would be advantageous.
  • Ability to play piano and/or violin would be a welcome bonus.
  • A proactive approach to planning engaging activities and supporting children’s interests and development.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with hands-on parents.
Requirements
  • Enhanced DBS check, or willingness to obtain one.
  • Current paediatric first-aid certificate.
  • Excellent, verifiable references from previous private households.

  • The legal right to work in the UK.
  • Discreet, trustworthy, punctual and highly reliable.
  • Organised and able to use initiative while respecting the family’s preferences and routines.
