Job description

Astute's Power Team is looking for an EC and I (Electrical, Controls & Instrumentation) Technician to join a large, brand new Energy from Waste Power Station located in Bedfordshire.

The facility, now in full operation, provides a vital outlet for the sustainable disposal of over 545,000 tonnes of residual waste annually and generates over 60 megawatts of low-carbon energy—enough to meet the needs of over 112,500 homes.

The successful applicant will support the EC and I Team Leader in performing pre-planned and reactive maintenance of all EC and I assets on site.

Responsibilities and duties of the EC and I Technician

Reporting to the EC and I Team Leader, you will be responsible for:

1. Performing pre-planned and reactive maintenance on all electrical, controls, and instrumentation assets across the power station.
2. Fault finding and maintaining electrical systems, including motors, drives, switchgear, high/low voltage plant, and instrumentation such as pressure, temperature, level, and flow sensors.
3. Calibrating instrumentation.
4. Conducting continuous improvement activities, plant modifications, and design work.
5. Supervising third-party contractors.
6. Applying maintenance techniques and best practices.
7. Assisting with plant development projects.
8. Maintaining accurate maintenance records on the site CMMS.
9. Assisting in outage planning, scheduling, and coordination.
10. Ensuring the availability of plant spares.

Professional qualifications

We are seeking candidates with:

• Ideally, a recognised Electrical/Controls & Instrumentation apprenticeship in a heavy process industry.
• A relevant technical qualification such as an NVQ, ONC, or HNC in Electrical, Control, or Instrumentation engineering, or a similar discipline.
• OSHA or NEBOSH qualifications would be advantageous.

Personal skills

The ideal candidate will have:

• At least five years of supervisory experience in a similar heavy industry plant, preferably involving high-pressure steam systems such as power plants, refineries, or COMAH sites.
• Flexibility to work day and night shifts.

Salary and benefits

Starting salary of up to £48,000, plus:

• Bonus
• Overtime at 1.5x
