Job summary

Equans is seeking an EC&I Technician to join the maintenance team at Fellside CHP plant near Sellafield. You will perform planned and corrective EC&I work, manage risk assessments, and support day-to-day engineering tasks while ensuring compliance with safety and environmental standards.

You will use Maximo CMMS for work orders, produce method statements, and supervise contractors to deliver safe, compliant project execution.

Qualifications

• Time served apprenticeship or NVQ 3 in Electrical, Instrument or Control.
• Knowledge of instrument and control theory.
• Reading and understanding electrical diagrams and P&IDs.
• Understanding of Permit to work systems and risk assessments.
• Familiarity with electrical safety standards (DSEAR, EAWR, HASAWA).
• Experience supervising consultants/contractors on projects.

Responsibilities

• Perform programmed maintenance on rotating and stationary EC&I equipment.
• Provide EC&I technical support for day-to-day activities.
• Update the Electronic Shift Log and CMMS (Maximo).
• Carry out risk assessments and produce method statements.
• Produce and improve maintenance procedures and work plans.
• Order spares and replacement equipment per site procedures.
• Supervise contractors to ensure safety and quality compliance.
• Maintain records and read/write reports in CMMS; on-call rota when required.

We have a great opportunity within Equans Embedded Energy for an EC&I Technician to join our maintenance team at Fellside CHP plant just outside the Sellafield estate.

Equans Embedded Energy operates multiple customer sites with large-scale embedded energy capacity across the UK, providing specialist management of onsite generation for industrial processes and the ability to export to the Grid. We combine multiple technologies to meet our customers’ specific needs, and provide design, build, operate and maintenance services. Our skills and expertise can help industrial businesses to achieve their carbon reduction goals.

We are experts in many technologies, including combined heat and power (CHP), biomass, and energy from waste. By locating generation on customers’ sites we provide our customers with industry leading safety management, reduced energy costs and carbon footprint and assured energy security for their operational needs.

Key Activities:

• Perform programmed maintenance work, defect rectification, emergent and project work relating to rotating and stationary equipment.
• Providing timely feedback and completion of the Electronic Shift Log and the Site CMMS (Maximo).
• Carry out Risk Assessments and produce method statements that detail the safest method to carry out work.
• Troubleshoot assigned EC&I problems, resolving and documenting issues.
• Provide EC&I technical support for day-to-day Engineering and Maintenance activities.
• Produce and improve maintenance procedures, work plans, project scoping documents and contractor work scopes.
• Specify and order assigned spares/replacement equipment in line with site quality procedures.
• Supervise contractor personnel to ensure all work is technically correct and in accordance with site safety, environmental and quality procedures.
• Work alongside other members of the Engineering and Maintenance/ Operations Team to review contractor method statements, risk assessments & other required safety documentation for fitness for purpose.
• Understand the requirements of current standards and key legislation, including DSEAR, EAWR & HASAWA, and work to ensure full compliance.
• Update work order records and reports through site CMMS.
• Provide out of hours cover on a 1 week in 3 on call rota.
• Time served apprenticeship or NVQ 3 in Electrical, Instrument or Control, discipline.
• Knowledge of instrument and control theory.
• Basic knowledge of The Electricity at Work Regulations.
• Knowledge of plant SHE systems & procedures.
• Understanding of Permit to work systems, risk assessment and method statement documentation.
• Knowledge of sub-stations and motor control centres, transformers and generators.
• Good understanding of EC&I problem solving techniques and ability to read single line diagrams, schematics and P&IDs.
• Good understanding of process instrumentation, 4-20mA loops, HART, Modbus, Profibus etc.
• Experience with supervision of consultants/contractors to successfully complete projects & meet contractual objectives/obligations.
• Confident in using Microsoft Office packages to produce associated documents.
• Basic understanding of spending procedures for ordering goods and services.
