Job description

Job Title: Electrical, Control & Instrumentation (EC&I) Technician

Location: Peterborough

Working Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday

Salary: 47,239 per year + annual bonus scheme + benefits

About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an EC&I Technician to join a leading innovator in resource recovery and energy transformation. In this role, you will be instrumental in ensuring the safe and reliable operation of an Energy Recovery Facility (ERF) by carrying out maintenance, diagnostics, and improvement work across all EC&I systems.

This is a key position in ensuring plant performance, safety, and environmental compliance, and plays a crucial role in supporting the transition to a climate-positive future by diverting waste from landfill and transforming it into energy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and repair all Electrical, Control, and Instrumentation systems across the facility.
  • Carry out fault diagnostics and perform corrective and reactive maintenance work.
  • Ensure all maintenance plans are delivered safely, on time, and within budget.
  • Lead and support plant improvement projects aimed at improving reliability and reducing operational costs.
  • Support cross-discipline teams with technical expertise and assistance.
  • Coordinate and oversee contractors to ensure safety and compliance.
  • Participate in an on-call rota to respond to breakdowns and emergencies, including out-of-hours coverage (nights, weekends, and bank holidays).

About You

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Proven experience in EC&I engineering within a process or manufacturing environment.
  • City & Guilds / NVQ Level 3 / HNC (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Strong understanding of health, safety, and environmental regulations and standards.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting instrument loop drawings and P&IDs.
  • Experience working with Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
  • DCS/SCADA systems experience.
  • Ability to logically diagnose and resolve technical faults efficiently.
  • Clear and confident communication skills at all levels.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Formal electrical qualification allowing multi-skilled status.
  • 18th Edition IEE Wiring Regulations certification.
