Overview

EC&I (Electrical, Control & Instrumentation) Technician — Spalding, Lincolnshire, England, United Kingdom.

Role Summary

We are on the search for a new EC&I Technician to join our growing team in Spalding. You will be responsible for supporting the delivery of our priorities and provide crucial EC&I support to optimise plant availability. You’ll play an important role in ensuring Spalding remains reliable and flexible while still achieving high standards of safety, quality, and environmental performance.

This is a full-time day working role with flexibility needed for out of hours/on-call support when needed.

Responsibilities
  • Maintenance & Reliability: Support plant availability through safe and effective maintenance activities. Provide ECI expertise to engineers and discipline leads. Use the Maintenance Management System (MMS) to manage tasks, spares, and history records. Ensure all work is planned, prioritised, and completed in a timely manner.
  • Technical Support & Team Collaboration: Deputise for the ECI Lead and support delivery of operational priorities. Supervise contract workforce and provide hands-on technical support. Contribute to staff appraisals, training delivery, and development. Promote a culture of multi-skilling and continuous improvement.
  • Compliance & Documentation: Ensure adherence to company procedures, ISIs, SSIs, and modification protocols. Review and update procedures and technical drawings as required. Produce accurate WOCs/RAMs and ensure proper sign-off for safety documentation. Maintain quality standards in all supervised or direct work.
  • Outage & Equipment Management: Plan and supervise contract support during outages. Maintain critical equipment, including Continuous Emission Monitoring Systems (CEMS). Ensure core training in Electrical and C&I systems is completed.
  • Operational & Strategic Support: Attend daily operational meetings and support production priorities. Assist in loss of load investigations and deliver corrective actions. Support budget control and procurement to ensure value for money. Participate in projects and initiatives delegated by the ECI Lead.
  • Flexibility and Availability: Be on call and adapt working patterns to meet business needs. Fulfil roles and responsibilities as defined in company safety rules and procedures. Actively engage in HSSE initiatives.
Why you?

As our new EC&I Technician, you’re technically minded, and solutions driven with a background in power generation or other heavy industry/technical production environments. You have a strong understanding of operational and maintenance practices within a CCGT power plant and gas/steam turbines like technical drawings, computer aided MMS and instrumentation and vibration monitoring. You are confident working with control systems (DCS, SCADA and PLC’s) like infi90, T3000, GE MKVIe and Siemens S7. You’ll bring knowledge of medium voltage switchgear and high voltage generators/monitors and transformers. Your flexible personality, critical thinking and strong initiative help you make informed decisions and give you the confidence to have technical discussions that support plant safety and reliability.

Education/Experience

HNC/HND in a relevant field preferred but we are open to candidates with the right practical experience and attitude.

PLC/software programming skills would be an advantage but not essential as training for the right candidate can be provided.
