Job summary

A leading technical consultancy is seeking an EC&I Designer based in Devonport. You will be responsible for producing CAD models and engineering designs, reviewing technical documents, and liaising with stakeholders. The ideal candidate has experience in electrical design and a relevant engineering qualification. This position offers a competitive hourly rate of up to £50 and requires eligibility for SC level security clearance.

EC&I Designer

Paying up to 50p/h (Inside IR35)

Responsibilities:

  • Review and interpret technical information and requirements.
  • Understand and create technical drawings, specifications, and reports.
  • Produce CAD models and engineering designs for parts, components, systems, and structures in line with recognised standards and to the required time, cost, and quality requirements.
  • Develop innovative design solutions with robust engineering substantiation.
  • Undertake routine calculations (relevant to design specialisation).
  • Use appropriate tools and techniques (including engineering judgement) to make informed design decisions.
  • Provide solutions to manufacturing and installation issues by assisting in the resolution of technical and production queries.
  • Liaise with design and engineering colleagues (and other appropriate stakeholders) across the GEPL to ensure coordination and functionality of design.
  • Interface with customers and supply chain on design issues and assist with procurement specifications.
  • Apply configuration management (including change control) processes to design outputs as well as legacy ?datum-pack? technical information.
  • Prepare, produce, and maintain project technical information
  • Support the application of technical governance through rigorous checking of design outputs as well as assist in the preparation and presentation of relevant assurance evidence at design reviews.
  • Assist more senior designers in a range of activities including the production of estimates, as well as the maintenance, and improvement in quality standards of outputs.
  • Fulfil Design Lead responsibilities as assigned for single discipline, low risk projects.
  • Provide guidance to less experienced team members to support both their effective working, and their professional development.

Experience required:

  • Ideally have completed an engineering or design apprenticeship in a relevant discipline or possess transferable skills and experience in a marine/defence/industry design environment.
  • National Certificate (or BTEC Level 3) qualified in a relevant engineering subject or hold a suitable qualification with demonstrable experience in a relevant field.
  • Possess a good understanding of electrical design principles and practices.
  • Ability to interpret and produce structural drawings and models.
  • Hold or be eligible to obtain SC level security clearance
