Job description

About Us

Join The Clinical Team at Oxfordshire County Council in our new Community Family Clinic initiative. You will be part of a highly regarded multidisciplinary Clinical Team led by a Consultant Clinical Psychologist. We focus on a creative, dynamic, and evidence-based approach, drawing on trauma-informed, developmental, and systemic models. The team supports each other through regular meetings, supervision, and reflective practice facilitated by Arlene Vetere, a respected Consultant Clinical Psychologist and Family Therapist. We support professional development with allocated CPD funding and collaborate with Oxford University’s clinical psychology doctoral training, fostering research and service innovation.

Our expanded services now include working with children, young people, and families in Oxfordshire through an innovative Community Family Clinic. You will work alongside Clinical Psychologists, Family Therapists, and Psychological Family Practitioners within a team that values support and professional growth. The team has grown significantly over the past eight years, developing new tools, publishing research, and working across Europe. Our outdoor therapeutic centre, equipped with mountain bikes, canoes, camping gear, and Land Rovers, offers opportunities for innovative interventions. Oxfordshire County Council provides excellent employment conditions, including competitive salaries, a generous pension, and relocation packages.

About the Role

This role involves working within our Clinical Team alongside the Family Solutions Service (FSS), which supports vulnerable children and their families to reduce safeguarding concerns and improve outcomes for children aged 0-19. As a Highly Specialist Clinical Psychologist, you will lead the Clinical Team's contribution in one of three localities, managing a team comprising a family therapist and a psychological practitioner. You will be supported by two other 8b Clinical Psychologists overseeing other localities, and the entire Clinical Team operates cohesively across areas. Our team culture is supportive and collaborative, aiming to help families address issues that threaten family stability and support family reunification whenever possible.

This position offers extensive opportunities to enhance your clinical skills through diverse casework, including working with families, children, and young people with complex needs. You will utilize and develop a range of intervention models such as systemic approaches, Video Interaction Guidance, Mentalization-Based Treatment (MBT), trauma-informed care, and cognitive-behavioral therapy. You will be encouraged to innovate and extend evidence-based practices, contributing to research and publications, building on our existing work published in journals and chapters on safety and protection in residential children’s homes.

We welcome discussions about specific skills and experiences you wish to develop further in this role.

About You

We seek a Clinical Psychologist committed to facilitating positive change, enthusiastic, compassionate, and collaborative. Your interest in continuous learning will be evident through your application of evidence-based practice and formulation as a core intervention approach. You believe in the potential of families to improve and aim to support parents in achieving their best, helping to prevent family breakdowns.
