Job Description

Service Care Solutions is recruiting on behalf of a Local Authority in Hertfordshire for a Group Accountant. This is a fantastic opportunity for a finance professional to play a key role in delivering expert financial advice, managing budgets, and ensuring strong financial governance. If you have experience in financial management, budgeting, and team leadership within a local authority setting, we’d love to hear from you!

Main responsibilities

  1. To provide financial advice and guidance for a range of services across the council supporting key financial processes to enable the sound financial management of the organisation. This will require the post-holder to use professional skills and knowledge to proactively identify, investigate, analyse, and evaluate issues and/or solutions within the financial management framework.
  2. To ensure that processes and procedures are adhered to with respect to the financial administration of the organisation’s affairs. This will include identifying opportunities to improve these processes and procedures on an ongoing basis.
  3. Contribute to the development of a strong financial awareness culture across the organisation and lead the budget setting and budget monitoring processes.
  4. To lead and manage a small team delivering expert financial services to budget holders and staff within the local authority.

Candidate Requirements

  1. Strong knowledge of financial management principles, with the ability to provide professional financial advice and guidance across various council services.
  2. Experience in ensuring adherence to financial policies and procedures while identifying opportunities for process enhancements.
  3. Proven ability to lead budget setting, monitoring, and financial reporting to support sound financial decision-making.
  4. Ability to proactively investigate financial issues, analyse data, and evaluate solutions within a financial management framework.
  5. Experience in leading and managing a small finance team, supporting budget holders, and fostering a culture of financial awareness within the organisation.
