Electrical Engineering Apprentice, Edinburgh

Join us in August 2025 as an Apprentice in our Digital X – Core Solutions Team.

What you'll do

As an Electrical Engineering Apprentice within our Digital X – Core Solutions Team, you will:

  • Operate and maintain data centre mechanical and electrical infrastructure
  • Provide 24/7 on-site attendance to respond to emerging situations that may disrupt technology systems
  • Identify and control health and safety risks associated with work activities
  • Support planned activities to ensure plant and systems remain compliant with relevant statutory and regulatory requirements
What you’ll learn

This apprenticeship is a fantastic starting point or career change. You’ll receive support, guidance, training, and mentoring to help you reach your full potential. Your line manager will set goals and an individual learning plan to help you complete professional qualifications or technical training.

Your learning journey will include:

  • Core engineering activities
  • Meta-skills such as managing yourself, connecting with others, and interacting with change
  • The importance of environmental sustainability and good practice

How you’ll learn:

  • At Edinburgh College, Midlothian Campus
  • Year 1: Attend college Monday-Thursday; Friday in the workplace
  • Years 2-4: In the workplace with one day of college per week
The skills you'll need

We’re looking for passionate learners with determination, motivation, and drive to succeed. You should have strong communication, stakeholder management, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships at all levels.

You’ll also need:

  • An interest in Electrical Engineering
  • The ability to travel to Edinburgh College and Melville Gate Data Centre from your home
  • A strong customer focus
  • An innovative and creative mindset
  • Good problem-solving skills and a proactive, inquisitive attitude
  • Analytical, numerate, and logical skills with adaptability to change
  • Good planning and organizational skills to prioritize and manage your time effectively
What else you need to know

This apprenticeship is a development program designed for candidates with little or no qualifications or experience in the subject. If you have substantial experience or qualifications, you may be overqualified.

Eligibility requires a minimum of 3 Highers (or equivalent), including Maths, English, and a Science subject.
