About the role
Overview of the role

The Data Governance Manager is a vital new position within a growing team, responsible for establishing and maintaining data governance and information security policies and practices at PharosAI. The role involves supporting data governance activities, providing guidance, designing training, and liaising with stakeholders to ensure compliance and security.

The manager will serve as a key interface within the organization, engaging with collaborators and customers to understand their needs and ensure compliance with data regulations (such as data flows and data protection impact assessments).

Key Responsibilities
  1. Ensure PharosAI platforms, services, and data management adhere to high data governance standards.
  2. Conduct internal audits on information security and data governance.
  3. Coordinate with various teams within the PharosAI ecosystem to improve data governance efficacy.
  4. Create and maintain a central register of projects and metadata.
  5. Represent PharosAI in data governance-related meetings and groups.
  6. Respond to queries from researchers and operational teams about data governance.
  7. Ensure compliance with frameworks like the NHS Data Security and Protection Toolkit, ISO27001, and others, and improve the risk profile continually.
  8. Develop policies, procedures, and training materials supporting good data governance practices.
  9. Engage with external data governance communities and oversight bodies.
  10. Support compliance with external requirements from bodies like the MHRA and ICO.
  11. Promote the importance of good data governance within the organization and community.
  12. Maintain assurance records and artifacts for activities.
  13. Assess and manage data governance risks, working with teams to prevent and respond to data breaches.
  14. Address ethical considerations related to data collection and use.

This is a full-time, fixed-term role until 31st March 2027, working 35 hours per week.

About you

Successful candidates will have:

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of issues and controls relevant to research using sensitive data (e.g., confidentiality, data protection, medical device regulation).
  • Experience supporting management frameworks like the NHS DSPT, CAF, ISO standards (27001, 9001, 22301).
  • Experience conducting or supporting audits of organizations or projects.
  • Ability to engage stakeholders and provide clear guidance on data governance.
  • Ability to work within diverse teams and make risk-based decisions.
  • Proactive workload management and ownership skills.
  • Degree or relevant experience demonstrating management ability in a similar role.
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of AI governance, ethics, or regulation, or biomedical engineering/biotechnology themes.
  • Experience presenting to senior stakeholders and developing policies or practices.
  • Knowledge of technical infrastructure supporting research.
  • Interest in scientific or data-intensive research.
