Polytec are looking for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the mechanical design for new product development for our client based at Newmarket. We are seeking a creative and innovative designer to provide expert technical guidance to the mechanical design team and maintain a high-quality technical output on time and to cost.

Responsibilities:
  1. Producing detailed designs using 3D CAD and use of FEA tools to simulate mechanical behaviour.
  2. Overseeing hands-on fabrication and testing of prototypes, validating design performance and functionality.
  3. Undertaking tolerance analysis of designs including GD and T.
  4. Working to appropriate standards (BS8888 and ISO standards).
  5. Producing documentation to support development of products and acting as Lead Engineer on projects and bids when required.
Requirements:
  1. Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering (or similar).
  2. 5+ years' experience in product design, development and engineering to support manufacture in medium to high volumes.
  3. Experience developing mechanical design solutions through entire product life cycle using 3D CAD packages (ideally SolidWorks).
  4. Broad knowledge of component manufacturing processes and techniques, materials, treatments and finishes and their environmental implications.
  5. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to interact with peers and stakeholders in a variety of formats (e.g. via technical reports and presentations).
