Private Equity Lawyer, Partner, Head of the London team to £1.5 million

The relaunching of a UK private equity practice at a well-respected directories ranked UK firm – with attractive financials, a long standing corporate practice, and private equity clients – shouldn’t be a challenge. You would think not, especially as the managing partner is corporate-focused; the firm has been built around corporate work; there are existing clients; and the firm is consistently profitable (over half the equity partners earn over £1 million) in a lockstep model. This law firm has a strong role on offer but, first, just a quick recap of 2024. There were 40 private equity partner hires in London, of which 30 moves were to US firms and 10 were to UK firms. Breaking that down a little further:

1. 19 moves were from a US firm to another US firm;
2. 8 moves were from a UK firm to a US firm;
3. 5 moves were from a UK firm to another UK firm;
4. 5 moved were from a US firm to a UK firm;
5. 3 moves were from an in-house role to a US firm.

Clearly there is a trend, but this UK corporate powerhouse has started this cycle of growth in the private equity practice from the bottom up. Following a couple of high-quality junior partner hires, the London office is now looking for a senior private equity partner, with leadership and a title on offer. This law firm will suit a partner looking for a brand in the European market, strength in the UK corporate lawyer ranks and the desire to join an ambitious firm with a clear goal of leading the UK mid-market private equity market. Not everyone wants to join a US firm, so maybe this is the alternative….
