The Opportunity

Following the success of Hinkley Point C (HPC), the SZC Project, now under construction, has received planning approval and Government financing support. When completed, SZC will provide reliable electricity to 6 million homes for 60 years, supporting Britain in achieving Net Zero by 2050 alongside renewable energy sources.

This is an exceptional opportunity for a Deputy Engineering & Technical Lead to join our dynamic team. Our teams operate flexibly, with a hybrid working model that includes office and home-based work, supported by a full suite of IT equipment to ensure comfort and efficiency.

The Role

As the Deputy Engineering & Technical Lead (Enabling Works & Earthworks), you will be part of the Engineering and Technical function within the Civil Work Program organisation, leading the delivery of all CWP Enabling Works & Earthworks design on behalf of the SZC Client. This critical role includes:

  • Defining design, engineering, and technical requirements.
  • Ensuring design deliverables meet technical requirements (including Digital Requirements) and managing the assurance review and stage gate process.
  • Overseeing design production by the Design Supply Chain to support the delivery schedule, including planning, procurement, and construction.
  • Managing the Responsible Designer (Edvance and CNEPE) Technical Scope and coordinating with the Design Authority.
  • Coordinating and integrating the Enabling Works & Earthworks design with the design of other Portions, including Main Civils Works, Ancillary Works, and Marine & Tunnelling.
  • Supporting Construction and Manufacturing Quality.
  • Managing the Engineering & Technical budget and associated resources related to enabling works & earthworks.

The Skills

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Civils and/or nuclear projects, particularly in the earthworks sector, and hold a degree in a relevant field. Key skills and qualifications include:

  • Extensive experience in the UK's engineering practices and procedures.
  • Clear understanding of design and engineering interfaces with construction teams, commissioning teams, supply chain, and third parties.
  • Significant leadership experience in managing ground engineering teams and major projects.
  • Proven ability to manage multidisciplinary teams in a large and complex project environment.
  • Excellent communication and engagement skills, capable of interacting at various levels, including Management Team, client departments, design delivery teams, and third-party authorisers.
