Job description

We're looking for dedicated Specialty Doctors to join our friendly and growing Emergency Department team at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust. You'll work across two of our sites: Worcestershire Royal Hospital, and the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide clinical services to patients at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust and GPs, and attend multi-disciplinary meetings to provide high quality clinical care.
  • Support the Emergency department and acute medicine to make sure patients receive timely care and flow through the hospital efficiently.
  • Offer consultation and advice to clinical colleagues across the Trust and Primary Care.
  • Attend cross-county and cross-site meetings to collaborate with other teams and contribute to high-quality service delivery.
  • Work alongside colleagues to help achieve the Trusts goals and meet the departments objectives.
  • Join the middle-grade rota to provide emergency and urgent care outside normal working hours. To ensure duties are shared equally.
  • Be ready to attend the hospital when needed for patient reviews during non-resident on-call shifts.
  • Provide care for minor injuries and emergencies, as well as general ED clinical work.
  • Support the Consultant team with daily patient reviews in the Clinical Decision Unit and ED review clinics.
  • Help with teaching VTS trainees, FY2s, and middle-grade doctors. You'll also participate in training programs for Regional SAS Grade and Specialist Registrars.
  • Collaborate with the clinical governance lead to help develop the ED service and ensure we meet national targets.

Job description
Job responsibilities

A suitably experienced post-holder will be expected to provide an appropriate clinical service in the relevant specialty to patients of the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust and to General Practitioners.

The post-holder will be expected to provide a service to patients of the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, General Practitioners and to attend multi-disciplinary meetings. The successful candidate will be expected to work within multi-disciplinary teams in providing high quality clinical care.

The post-holder will provide support to the A& E department and acute medicine to ensure timely appropriate care and patient flow through the hospital.

The post-holder will provide consultation and advisory service to clinical colleagues in the Trust and Primary Care.

The post-holder will attend cross county and cross site meetings.

To collaborate with colleagues to deliver a high quality, timely service and to work towards meeting the Trusts and departmental objectives.

The post-holder will participate in the middle grade rota to ensure that both emergency and urgent services are provided out of normal hours, to be shared equally with colleagues in post.

Definitive care of minor injuries and emergencies and other routine ED clinical work.

Supporting the Consultant team with daily review and care of ED patients on the Clinical Decision Unit and ED review clinics.

The post-holder will provide support to the A& E department to ensure timely appropriate care and patient flow through the hospital.

The ED has an active teaching program for VTS trainees / FY2 and middle grades. The department also participates in the Regional SAS Grade and Specialist Registrar training programs. The post holder will be expected to attend these sessions where relevant.

Work with the clinical governance lead for the ED, ensuring the continuing development of the service, including the achievement of national targets.

  • Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical problems

  • Publications in relevant peer-reviewed journals in the last 5 years
  • Evidence of having undertaken original research

Qualifications
Essential

  • Eligible for full GMC Registration with a licence to practise at the time of appointment
  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • At least ALS and commitment to complete APLS/EPALS and ATLS/ETC

Desirable

  • Higher degree
  • ALS, ATLS/ETC, APLS/EPLS/EPALS instructor

Teaching Experience
Essential

  • Ability to teach clinical skills to medical, nursing staff and other disciplines
  • Experience of teaching clinical skills to undergraduates and postgraduates

  • Ability to supervise postgraduate research

Experience

  • At least four years full-time or equivalent postgraduate training, at least two of which will be in the relevant specialty training programme, or as a FTSTA. Or equivalent experience and competencies of this specialist training
  • Clinical training and experience equivalent to 4 years post qualification with minimum 2 years EM experience
  • Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on range of problems both emergency and elective within specialty
  • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
  • Able to lead a resuscitation or trauma team.
  • Knowledge in subspecialties eg. Trauma & Orthopaedics
