The company employs a diverse team of 100 professionals, including Project Engineers, Design Engineers, Site Supervisors, Mechanical Fitters, Electrical Technicians, welders & fabricators and more. MIM specialises in a range of disciplines such as Machinery Movement, Heavy Lifting, Welding& fabrication, Cleanroom Protocol, we deliver end to end Engineering solutions for our customers.

Role Description

We are looking for a Design Engineer / Steel Detailer to join our engineering team at MIM, specialising in the design, detailing, and drafting of steel structures and mechanical components. The ideal candidate will be responsible for producing accurate and efficient fabrication drawings and models, ensuring compliance with relevant standards, and coordinating closely with internal teams, fabricators, and site staff.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Create accurate and detailed 2D drawings and 3D models for structural steel and mechanical systems using software such as AutoCAD, Tekla Structures, or SolidWorks.
  • Generate fabrication and erection drawings, including plans, sections, details, and material lists.
  • Interpret architectural and engineering drawings to produce shop drawings for steel fabrication and installation.
  • Perform basic engineering calculations to support design intent (e.g., load analysis, connection detailing).
  • Coordinate with project engineers, fabricators, and site supervisors to ensure design feasibility and resolve design-related issues.
  • Prepare Bill of Materials (BOM), cutting lists, and CNC data as required.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant design codes and industry standards.
  • Conduct design checks and self-review to ensure drawing accuracy and buildability.
  • Support revision control and project documentation in accordance with company procedures.
  • Assist with on-site measurements, field verification, and occasional site visits as necessary.
Qualifications & Requirements:
  • Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in steel detailing or structural/mechanical drafting.
  • Proficiency in steel detailing software (e.g., Tekla Structures, Advance Steel, AutoCAD) and mechanical design tools (e.g., SolidWorks).
  • Understanding of steel fabrication and erection processes.
  • Strong knowledge of engineering drawing standards and practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Good communication and teamwork abilities.
