Job Description

Design Engineer based in Peterborough

Competitive salary between £35,000 and up to £45,000 depending on experience.

The Peterborough facility has two functional areas: an engineering facility that designs and builds mobile water treatment equipment, and a plant that regenerates ion exchange resin and works with cutting-edge membrane technologies to provide mobile water treatment equipment for customers.

We are a friendly site, big enough to give you a good introduction to the corporate world, but small enough that you will know everyone you work with and will understand the importance of building good working relationships.

Design Engineer

The Design Engineer will report to the Global Engineering and Asset Leader and operationally to the Team Leader. You will be responsible for key roles in the Peterborough facility and global asset design engineering. Outgoing and interested in how things work, you will have a natural curiosity that will prompt you to explore ways to work smarter, service-in-mind design approach, faster and better, resulting in cost savings, smart solutions, quality, and on-time delivery.

Flexible and with great people skills, you won’t mind helping out with other tasks when busy; understanding that our customers matter to us is essential.

You will spend your time in the office at the Peterborough site, in the plant/shop floor, with occasional site visits and customer meetings, working with teams and growing your skills towards becoming a Project Engineer.

Key roles

• Develop 3D model designs in SolidWorks or AutoCAD and produce detailed fabrication drawings and reviews.
• Support design and project engineering of mobile assets and water treatment systems for build, own, and operate plants and mobile fleet upgrades.
• Collaborate closely with the design team to support drafting and develop designs.
• Material and equipment selection, ensuring compliance with specifications and certifications.
• Manage customer deliverables for customer-facing projects.
• Work with SAP: Material Master, Inventory, drawing, and BOM.
• Support EHS, Quality, MOC engineering actions, and HAZOPs.
• Assist in finding suppliers and parts; conduct technical reviews of quotes.
• Support manufacturing engineering and drawing management across multiple locations.
• Provide extended support to the commercial engineering team, mobile project management team, and plant support.
• Train and coach engineering interns, new starters, and outsourced engineers.
• Conduct site visits and as-built surveys.

Qualifications

Qualifications/Skills: B.Sc / M.Eng / M.Sc in Mechanical, Chemical, Industrial, Electrical, or Environmental Engineering.

Work Experience: Minimum 2-3 years in water industry or industrial placement training.

Preferred Skills: Knowledge of SAP, AutoCAD, and SolidWorks is advantageous.
