Job summary

Midlothian Council is recruiting for an Early Years Practitioner to work 36 hours per week on a four-day pattern (Mon, Tue, Thu, Fri) from 7.30am to 5pm. The post is fixed term until January 2028 and located within our Early Years settings.

Applicants must have the specified practitioner level qualification (HNC Childhood Practice at SCQF 7 or SVQ 3 in Child Care and Education) and a PVG scheme membership. A first aid certificate is required or obtainable within 6 months.

Qualifications

• Must hold at least a practitioner level qualification such as HNC Childhood Practice at SCQF Level 7 or SVQ Social Services (Children & Young People) SCQF 7.
• First aid certificate is required, or obtained within 6 months of starting.
• Forest School Level 3 or related outdoor/kindergarten qualifications are desirable.
• PVG Scheme membership is required for Regulated Work with Children.

HNC Childcare and Education.

HNC Working with Children in Early Years.

HNC Early Education and Childcare (at SCQF level 7).

Qualifications which were previously recognised for SNNEB/NNEB registration may be acceptable.

An up to date first aid certificate is required however this can be obtained within 6 months of starting the post.

Forest School Level 3, Forest and Outdoor Leadership Award Level 8, Nature Play and Nurture or Forest Kindergarten qualifications are also desirable.

Please note that it is Midlothian Councils policy that successful applicants will be appointed to the first point on the salary scale.

Based on 36 hours over 52 weeks per year, the minimum actual salary for this position is £32,554.06 per annum.

Requirements

This post is considered Regulated Work with Children under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act, 2007. Therefore, it is an offence to apply if you are barred from working with children.

Successful candidates will require PVG Scheme membership for Regulated Work with Children, You will be required to join the Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme Update check prior to commencing employment with Midlothian Council, the cost of which will be met by you.
