Job description

Location: Letham Mains Primary School Hays Walk Haddington, EH41 3FH

Salary: £31,096 - £33,669 per year pro rata

Contract Type: Temporary

Position Type: Part Time

Hours: 16 hours per week

Vacancy Information

The salary advertised is full time (35 hours per week, 52 weeks per year). Part-time hours / sessional posts will be pro-rated accordingly.

Hourly rate of pay: £17.04 - £18.45
This is a 52-week non-sessional post i.e. it will include working during the school holidays.

Temporary until 7th August 2026.
Days and Hours of Work:
Wednesday, 12:30-18:00
Thursday, 08:00-14:00
Friday, 13:30-18:00
To start 8th September 2025.

Our nursery operates a 48 week model and is open between 08.15and 17.45. The children attend nursery 2 allocated days a week (plus alternate Fridays) to access their entitlement to the Scottish Government funded 1140hrs of free Early Learning and Childcare.

Our Early Years Practitioners are motivated and enthusiastic, led by two Senior Early Years Practitioners and supported by the Depute and Head Teacher. We are looking for an experienced Early Years Practitioner who is enthusiastic and passionate about Early Years provision, and who will continue to develop and encourage best practice in delivering this at a high standard. Experience and knowledge of 1140h provision would be an advantage.

To work as an effective member of an early years team delivering a high quality child centred service which meets the needs of children and their families.

Job Requirements

Relevant Qualifications
You must be educated to HNC level in Early Education and Childcare or hold SNNB/HNC/SVQ3 qualifications in Childcare/Education or equivalent and be able to evidence additional learning and knowledge of current practice and legislation in relation to Early Learning and Childcare.

SSSC registration
SSSC registration is an essential requirement of this role. If you are appointed and are not already a member of the relevant section of the SSSC Register, you will be required to apply for registration within 3 months of your start date to ensure that you are registered within the required 6 months.

PVG Membership
This post is considered as a Regulated Role with vulnerable children and/or protected adults, as specified in the Disclosure (Scotland) Act 2020.

All preferred candidates for posts carrying out regulated work with these groups will be required to become a PVG Scheme member, or undergo a PVG Scheme update if they are already a member, prior to any formal offer of employment being made by East Lothian Council.
