This Early Years Practitioner role sits in First Steps Nursery, one of two workplace day nurseries on the grounds of Ashford and St Peter's Hospitals, run by the NHS trust. The work centres on planning and delivering Early Years Foundation Stage activities, acting as key worker to a set group of children, observing their development and keeping their learning journeys up to date. The nurseries take 158 children aged three months to five years, and the postholder may be asked to work across both sites. Applicants need an NVQ3 in Childcare and Education and prior experience with children under five.

What the job involves

• Act as key worker to a designated group of children, supervising them and providing a stimulating, caring learning environment
• Plan and deliver engaging activities in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage
• Provide nurturing day-to-day care and observe children's development
• Write individual short and medium term development plans from key-child observations
• Maintain children's Learning Journeys
• Give positive verbal and written feedback to parents and build parental links
• Support the Advanced Early Years Practitioner in running the nursery under Trust and nursery policies
• Take part in the physical side of children's health, wellbeing, care and play, including lifting and sitting on the floor
• Follow guidelines on administering medication and carry out daily health and safety checks
• Protect confidential information about children, parents, staff and professional contacts
• Follow Trust safeguarding children policies and procedures
• Attend team meetings and annual statutory training
