To be involved in planning, supervision, and facilitating appropriately balanced early years learning experiences that follow Curriculum for Excellence and the Pre-Birth to Three Curriculum. While providing a caring, safe, and welcoming environment for children, this role allows each child to develop at their own pace. Current national guidance and other relevant documentation will guide planning, along with child-led learning.
Key Responsibilities
- Observe, record, and plan through interaction to meet the needs of individual children.
- Monitor and evaluate children's development through Individual Learning Development (ILD) and Learning Intentions, and implement action plans.
- Work alongside parents when planning for each child. Support parental participation and build relationships with the community.
- Implement the appropriate curriculum by ensuring the room is fully resourced and facilitating learning experiences.
- Create a child-led environment to enable learning through play and suitable experiences.
- Promote awareness of equality within the nursery.
- Support the development of wellbeing, literacy, and mathematics across the setting.
- Respond to children's physical needs, e.g., toileting and nappy changing.
- Provide learning experiences tailored to children with additional support needs, according to their IEP.
- Implement child protection procedures and support children and families through lifestyle changes.
- Participate in outings, adhering to health and safety guidelines.
- Work collaboratively within a professional team, respecting each member's abilities.
- Collaborate with professionals from various disciplines.
- Contribute to staff meetings on relevant topics.
- Act as a positive role model.
- Engage in training, share knowledge, and document good practice in the CPD folder.
- Be registered with the SSSC or an equivalent body.
- Follow company policies and procedures.
Skills and Qualifications
- Possess a HNC or SVQ III in Childcare and Education or equivalent. Registration with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) is required or to be obtained.
- Knowledge of:
- The developmental needs of young children.
- The importance of parental involvement and respect for their role.
- Local and national guidelines, curriculum, and childcare procedures.
