Job summary

NEAT Academy Trust is seeking an Early Years Learning Lead (Maths) to drive high-quality, evidence-informed practice across the region. The role focuses on empowering early years educators, coaching setting teams, and building strong local networks to ensure strong foundations in early mathematics.

The position offers secondment from a current employer, with up to £500 per day reimbursement for salary costs and travel.

Qualifications

• Extensive knowledge of the key areas of early mathematics learning and ability to communicate these clearly to educators and settings.
• Completed professional development in EYPDP maths module.
• Completed professional development in EYCDT maths module.
• Experience with children aged 0–4 in early childhood education.
• Experience leading professional development in early maths.
• Experience mentoring others or coaching; able to build professional relationships.

Responsibilities

• Lead regional networks and build partnerships with Local Authorities, Maths Hubs and Family Hubs.
• Drive evidence-informed practice across the region in line with NEAT Academy Trust frameworks.
• Coach settings to adopt evidence-informed practice and plan delivery to meet needs across multiple areas.
• Develop and implement delivery plans with input from stakeholders including local authorities.

What skills and experience we're looking for

• Extensive knowledge of the key areas of early mathematics learning and able to communicate these clearly and confidently to educators and settings, while modelling a positive attitude to early maths
• Has completed some professional development in the Early Years Professional Development Programme (EYPDP) maths module.
• Has completed some professional development in the Early Years Child Development Training (EYCDT) maths module.
• Experience of working with children aged between 0 to 4 years old in an early childhood education context.
• Experience of leading professional development in early maths
• Experience of mentoring others or using a coaching model of support, demonstrating the ability to build and nurture professional relationships.
• Experience of developing and implementing a delivery plan which addresses the specific needs of early years settings and staff with input from key stakeholders including local authorities across multiple areas.
• Understands the importance of evidence-informed practice and able to identify evidence-informed approaches, training and resources.
• Able to work well with a team of other staff, communicating accurately both verbally and written.
• Understands the safeguarding requirements within the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) statutory framework.

Backed by the Department for Education’s Best Start in Life strategy, you will empower early years educators, coach setting teams, and build strong local networks to ensure every child gets the strong foundation in early mathematics they deserve.

As an Early Maths Lead, you will play a pivotal role in strengthening early maths provision, supporting settings to adopt evidence-informed practice, and driving positive outcomes for children.

Early Years Stronger Practice Hubs provide advice, share good practice and offer evidence-based professional development for early years practitioners.

The Early Years Stronger Practice Hubs programme launched in November 2022 and is supported by the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) and the National Children’s Bureau (NCB). In the secondment your employer will receive a reimbursement for your overall salary costs up to the maximum of £500 per day including all on-costs and travel costs.
