Overview

Early Years Educator Apprentice

Pay: £7.55 per hour

Contract: Temporary – required from 1 January 2026 (or earlier if possible) until the course finishes (expected around Summer 2027)

Hours: 40 hours per week, term time plus two weeks

Location: Tudhoe Moor Nursery School

Contract length: Fixed term for the length of the apprenticeship, expected to be around 18 months

Start date: January 2026 (earlier if possible)

Responsibilities

The post is to work alongside pupils in our brand new baby room for children aged 9 months to 2 years old. The position is full time, from 9:00 am to 5:30 pm, and term-time only. The successful candidate will join our Early Years Team and learn on the job through an apprenticeship.

Qualifications and requirements

No previous experience is required, but candidates should be hard-working, keen to learn, and have a can-do attitude. The ability to converse at ease with customers and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for the post.

Leave and pay calculation

Term time only plus two additional weeks’ pay is calculated as follows:

  • 38 teaching weeks; plus
  • 1.6 weeks (8 days) for public holidays; plus
  • 2 weeks for CPD; plus
  • Annual leave entitlement of 27 days (less than 5 years) or 32 days (5 years or more), based on continuous service

Examples:

  • Less than 5 years’ service: 40 weeks + 27 days + 8 days = 47 weeks’ pay, paid in 12 equal monthly installments
  • 5 years or more: 40 weeks + 32 days + 8 days = 48 weeks’ pay, paid in 12 equal monthly installments
