Job Overview
To work as part of an early years team helping to providing a high quality of care for the children aged 0-5 years in a safe, caring and stimulating environment.
Main duties of the job
- Basic early years’ experience with children under five
- Basic knowledge of Health and Safety
- Basic understanding of how an early years setting operates
- Child Protection training
- Food safety training
- To have effective comunication skills to help contribute to team work
- To help care for a group of children, taking an active role in settling the child in, talking to the parent’s and helping under the supervision of the Early Years Practitioner to maintain and keep records of their learning and development
- To project a happy approachable style that encourages a good engaging relationship with children, to enable them to reach their full potential.
- To have effective writing skills, enabling completion of children’s written assessments and other related and non-related paperwork under the guidance of the Early Years Practioner
- To have the imaginative skills to contribute to planned activities organised by qualified eEarly Years Practitioners.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
- To help ensure the health and safety of the children in your care
- To work alongside qualified Early Years Practitioners to help provide a safe, stimulating environment to encourage children to reach their full potential
- To ensure that the setting remains a welcoming place for children and their parents
- To contribute to both individual and group activities for the children
- To be a key person, ensuring that every child’s individual needs are catered for, to help the child to settle within the nursery, building relationships with both the child and their parent/carers, and maintaining accurate records of their learning and development under the guidance and support of the Early Year Practitioners.
- To work closely and build a good relationship with parents and ensure all relevant information is available to parents and communicate with them daily as regards their child’s welfare
- To work as part of the team under the guidance of qualified Early Years Practitioners, usually in one room but being flexible about working in other rooms with different age groups and occasionally, working at other locations within North Bristol Trust
- To attend staff training, feeding back information to colleagues and to keep up to date with childcare information
- To be aware of and understand the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage including the Welfare Requirements which is implemented and lead by the manager
- To follow North Bristol Trust’s and the Childcare Services Dept. policies and procedures
- To work towards and contribute to a quality assurance scheme
- To attend parents’ evenings to provide parents with their child’s progress and developmental files and discuss any issues they feel relevant with full support from qualified early years practitioners when required
- To attend and contribute to staff meetings on a regular basis
- To maintain professional relationships, build on team work and share ideas
- To promote equal opportunities and follow the Valuing Diversity and Promoting Equality policy within the setting and ensure that a culturally sensitive environment is maintained
- To adhere to the settings dress code at all times
- To attend staff appraisals where performing and training needs are monitored
- To be aware of data protection and the importance of confidentiality
