Nursery Assistant/Early Years Assistant

Job Description:

Shooting Stars Nurseries 2025 Early Years Childcare & Education Apprenticeship Programme

Level 2, Early years practitioner apprenticeship: suitable for candidates looking to start their early years childcare career.

Level 3, Early years educator apprenticeship: suitable for candidates with previous experience in childcare and working knowledge of the EYFS.

Hours: 30 hours a week within the nursery, in shifts 7.30am to 6pm Monday to Friday

Start Date: 1st September 2025

Salary: £7.55 per hour

Qualifications: GCSE (4 or above) English and Maths or equivalent qualification would be desirable but not essential.

N.B. You will need to be available to attend in person on the following dates:

  • Thursday 3rd April, 6.30pm onwards - An initial meet & greet with the Nursery Management team, an opportunity to get a closer look at the nursery setting and learn more about the role.
  • Saturday 12th April – An interactive assessment day, with a combination of activities to help us assess your skills, personality and suitability for the programme.

If successful at this stage, you will be invited back to the nursery when it is open and operational to take part in a practical trial. Successful candidates will be informed as soon as possible, but no later than Monday 2nd June 2025.

About the Role

Working as part of our nursery teams, you will receive guidance & support from our experienced early years professionals, to ensure that all children attending the setting receive high quality care, are kept safe, receive rich and stimulating play experiences and help assist with their individual learning & development.

You will provide practical care and support in daily routines, including meal times, playtime, and rest periods and undertake theoretical and practical training, working to complete tasks and assignments, to obtain the skills and knowledge necessary to achieve a level 2 or 3 qualification in Early Years Childcare and Education.

This apprenticeship will be offered in conjunction with Realise, our designated training provider and is subject to successful enrolment on their learning programme.
