About the role

We are offering a fully funded PhD position in the Mauri lab at the UCL Institute of Immunology and Transplantation (IIT), supported by the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) UNION Network: Understanding frailty towards a future of healthy ageing. Based in London, a dynamic and multicultural city home to world-class research institutions, this position provides an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of cutting-edge research.

The position will begin in September and is available until September in the first instance.

About you

We are seeking one highly motivated early-career researcher with a background in immunology to investigate B cell metabolism across tissue microenvironments in age-related diseases, including cancer. The project will integrate wet lab experiments with computational analysis, such as R and Python, and includes two secondments in outstanding partner institutions.

Eligibility criteria:

  • No doctoral degree at the time of recruitment.
  • Researchers funded by Doctoral Networks can be of any nationality.
  • Candidates should not have lived or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the UK for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately before their recruitment.
  • Candidate must have 1 year of research experience minimum.
  • A high level of proficiency in written and spoken English (certified at B2 level or equivalent) is required.

What we offer

Researchers are provided with a living allowance, a mobility allowance, and if applicable, a family allowance (if married and/or with responsibility for dependent children). Allowances include the cost of employment for UCL, employer National Insurance (NI) and pension contributions.

Fellows are paid a fixed salary during the fellowship with no annual increments and the current London Allowance, which qualifies for adjustments. There are 4 possible levels of basic salary ranging from £35,000 - £46,000, depending on whether the Fellow has dependents and if they opt out of the SAUL pension scheme.
