Job description

Early Days in Custody Mental Health Nurse/Practitioner

We have an exciting opportunity for an Early Days in Custody Mental Health Nurse/Practitioner to join our mental health team at HMP Winchester, a Category B Prison located in central Winchester.

HMP Winchester is a Category B Local remand prison located in Central Winchester accommodating approximately 670 male prisoners.

Although the site is close to Winchester city centre, there is onsite parking for all staff and it is a short walk from Winchester train station.

Hours

This position is full time, you'll receive an annual salary up to £50,000 per annum FTE - depending on experience.

Main duties of the job

As a Mental Health Nurse, your responsibilities will vary. You will:

  • Work within a multi-disciplinary team carrying out comprehensive assessments, initiating and reviewing care plans, and developing treatment options
  • Undertake medication rounds, and assess and treat patients who may have undergone traumatic experiences and may be distressed
  • Assess patients' health needs using an evidence-based framework and be able to risk assess using sound clinical knowledge
  • Work with individuals providing advice, support, and information and manage a case load of patients
  • Deliver non-judgemental care that makes a real difference
  • Monitor therapeutic responses to medication and potential side effects liaising with prescribers as required
  • Inspire excellence by forging strong links with our partners and stakeholders
  • Promote best practice, clinical supervision, and evidence-based care
  • Share knowledge, skills, and expertise to ensure safe care, building strong multi-disciplinary teams and supporting each other to do a great job
