Contract: 1 Permanent and 1 Fixed Term (for one year, maternity cover) from January 2024

Ark Priory admitted its first two reception and nursery classes (90 pupils) in September 2013, and in 2019/2020, we had our first cohort of Year 6 pupils. It is a mixed, non-denominational, two-form entry primary school for local children in Acton. It offers an inclusive and inspiring education in a community school with high aspirations for its pupils. We emphasize supporting our pupils to reach their full potential and beyond, developing well-rounded and conscientious citizens. Ark Priory was graded outstanding by Ofsted in June 2015.

The Role: Support pupils, parents, and teachers to foster a supportive learning environment, aiding academic progress and providing equal opportunities for all students.

Key Responsibilities:

Learning Support:

  • Support pupils’ learning through specific programmes, encouraging independence and confidence,
  • Promote inclusion and collaborative work,
  • Adapt resources for EAL and SEND pupils, ensuring safety and curriculum access,
  • Assist with related services (speech/language/physical therapy),
  • Observe, record, and feedback on pupil performance,
  • Use strategies with teachers to support behaviour management and learning goals,
  • Assist outside the classroom (e.g., computer lab, library).

Support for the school:

  • Supervise pupils during breaks and assist with pastoral care,
  • Accompany teachers and pupils on trips, ensuring safety and supervision.

Other:

  • Promote child safety and welfare,
  • Ensure data protection compliance,
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues and external contacts,
  • Support Ark network initiatives and share best practices.

Person Specification:

Qualifications:

  • Maths and English GCSE or equivalent at grade C or above,
  • Certified teaching assistant course or willingness to undertake,
  • Degree (desirable).

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

  • Experience building successful relationships with students,
  • Knowledge of classroom management, curriculum support, and behaviour strategies,
  • Good understanding of the national curriculum,
  • Strong literacy and numeracy skills,
  • Good organisational and IT skills,
  • Excellent communication skills,
  • Ability to handle minor incidents and support health and hygiene needs,
  • Additional skills (e.g., language, musical, sports coaching) are desirable.
