EAL Support TA

Are you passionate about helping young people from diverse linguistic backgrounds thrive in school? A well-established Primary school in Blackpool is looking for a dedicatedEAL Teaching Assistantto provide essential support for pupils whose first language is not English.

This role gives you the chance to engage with and support children from different backgrounds and cultures to help them engage in the curriculum.

About the role:

  • Providing tailored one-to-one and small group support to enhance pupils’ English language proficiency in speaking, listening, reading, and writing
  • Assisting pupils within mainstream classes to ensure they comprehend instructions, complete tasks effectively, and engage with subject content
  • Creating and modifying learning materials and resources to meet the specific needs of EAL (English as an Additional Language) learners
  • Supporting pupils in their social integration and cultural adaptation within the school community
  • Working collaboratively with subject teachers, the SENCO, and pastoral staff to track pupil progress and wellbeing
  • Contributing to whole-school initiatives that promote inclusion, diversity, and equal opportunitiesMaintaining comprehensive records of interventions and regularly reporting on pupil outcomes

About you:

  • Proven experience working with young people, preferably within educational or language support settings
  • Strong understanding of the challenges faced by EAL (English as an Additional Language) learners and effective strategies for supporting language development
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, with a high level of cultural awareness and sensitivity
  • Patient, flexible, and skilled at building positive, trusting relationships with pupils
  • Capable of working independently as well as collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Committed to ongoing professional development, including training in EAL methodologies and safeguarding practices
