Principal Tasks and Responsibilities
Post Holder principal tasks and responsibilities are:
- Within SQEP profile, preparing and/or checking designs, analyses, reports, drawings, specifications, and other documents in support of Nuclear and Non-Nuclear related plant, facility, and equipment within the company's licensed, authorized, and operational sites, or in support of external contracts.
- Participate in problem solving for the development of technical solutions to deficiencies or in the development of new designs.
- Complete the review and sentencing of new designs, methodologies of construction, and temporary works submitted to the Technical Authority.
- Manage design work packages, supporting planning of activities, with respect to task durations, level of effort, and provision of design deliverables with regular schedule reviews, progress reporting, technical reviews, and construction support.
- Supervise and provide on-the-job guidance to junior staff.
- Make effective use of 'Learn from Experience' information to develop and disseminate theoretical knowledge related to practical engineering and maintain a record of development to substantiate skills achieved.
- Support development, construction, installation, commissioning, operation, and maintenance of facilities to ensure compliance with design intent and DNSPs for Nuclear related Works, along with all relevant regulations and legislation.
- Support on-site inspection of DRDL assets for construction, maintenance, and modification.
- Maintain familiarity with DRDL procedures used within Facilities Engineering.
Additional Responsibilities
The Post Holder is not appointed as a Duly Authorized Person (DAP), Trade Controls Officer/Manager (TCO/TCM), or Information Asset Owner/Senior IAO (IAO/SIAO).
Interfacing Responsibilities
Effective task execution requires collaboration with other groups, including:
- Other Engineers within FLEET22 team for interface and conflict resolution.
- Operations & Integration Lead for operational capabilities.
- Safety Case Engineers for design specifications related to Safety Functional Requirements.
- Project/Package Manager for project deliverables, scope, schedule, and cost.
- User Acceptance Group for demonstrating system meeting User Requirements.
- Design Authority for technical governance and quality standards.
- Engineering Services Technical Authority for current systems and best practices.
- Plant Managers & Design and Safety Managers for plant use according to design intent.
- Other Designers and Engineers for cross-disciplinary coordination.
- External suppliers and subcontractors for coordination and compliance with design intent.
Authority
The Post Holder is authorized to:
- Request support from the Design Manager within budget constraints.
- Prepare and check design documentation as approved by the Design Manager.
- Develop and implement the Engineering Management Plan.
- Plan, estimate, and manage resources for projects.
- Audit processes for compliance and improvement.
- Sanction actions supporting the Engineering Management Plan.
Remuneration: Up to £65 Umbrella per hour.
Work Arrangement: Hybrid working, 2-3 days onsite per week in Plymouth or Bristol.
Academic and Experience Requirements
Degree or HND in engineering, Chartered Engineer or working towards it, with nuclear knowledge or equivalent. Experience in electrical building services, low voltage electrical systems, control & instrumentation, communications, and data systems, with understanding of SIL and high integrity systems for Nuclear Safety. Proven experience in managing complex design development, providing expert advice, project management, and working within safety and quality procedures. Knowledge of relevant engineering applications and nuclear/submarine facilities support experience is required.
