Finance Manager | Volcafe | Bristol hybrid (UK remote option)

Role Overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a Finance Manager to work in a truly global environment overseeing financial operations, including accounting, forecasting, planning, and compliance. The role reports to the Regional Finance Director for Europe and offers long-term development potential for someone eager to demonstrate their skills in a fast-paced soft commodities environment.

Volcafe Ltd is one of the world's leading international green coffee trading companies, operating in over 20 countries. Our expertise includes green coffee procurement, sustainability, blending, quality control, risk management, export, import, and distribution. We supply major coffee roasters and retailers worldwide, with strategic growth ambitions. We are part of ED&F Man Commodities, a global trader of agricultural products including coffee, sugar, molasses, and animal feed.

Volcafe focuses on making the coffee business better through sustainable supply chains and farmer support programs that address key economic, social, and environmental issues.

This role is for Volcafe UK, with a hybrid/remote working arrangement from our Bristol offices.

Key Accountabilities

  1. End-to-end ownership of the control environment for the full business cycle, focusing on enterprise risk management and regional compliance support.
  2. Timely and accurate management and financial reporting for the business unit.
  3. Oversight of external tax and compliance requirements impacting the business unit.
  4. Ensure compliance with internal financial and accounting policies, including authorization, credit, counterparty, and trading limits.
  5. Ownership of all corporate reporting to the group for the business unit.
  6. Oversight of ERP systems and processes.
  7. Management of historical data related to financial reporting.
  8. Qualitative review of monthly financials and detailed stakeholder analysis.
  9. Tracking cycle time efficiencies and key business drivers.
  10. Development of financial projections, forecasts, and sensitivity analyses.
  11. Ownership of budgeting processes and variance analysis to identify cost efficiencies.
  12. Ad-hoc research as needed by stakeholders.
  13. Working capital management and reporting, including financial covenants.
  14. Driving finance transformation to improve team synergy and stakeholder collaboration.
  15. Contributing to the bottom line through structured trade finance and facilities management.
  16. Providing thought leadership and team development.
  17. Aligning departmental goals with organizational strategy and process optimization.

Skills and Experience

  1. Extensive experience in finance and accounting, with prior senior management or controller roles - ESSENTIAL.
  2. Background in commodity trading industry - HIGHLY DESIRABLE.
  3. Manufacturing or FMCG experience considered.
  4. Professional qualification (e.g., ACCA, CMA, CIMA, CPA) with current membership.
  5. Bachelor's degree and/or MBA in finance, accounting, or related field.
  6. External audit or corporate finance experience - DESIRABLE.
  7. Financial modelling experience - DESIRABLE.
  8. Experience with project management and IT implementations.
  9. Strong team player with ability to work independently and lead cross-functional teams.
  10. High attention to detail, open-mindedness, and quick learning ability.
  11. Ability to work effectively across diverse cultures.
