Roles of an ENP

ENPs assess, diagnose, treat, and discharge patients, often in the ‘Minors’ area of the department. They work within guidelines set with the clinical lead of an emergency department. Responsibilities include:

  • Patient assessment, including pain management
  • Diagnosing issues such as sprains, strains, cuts, bites; administering medications and treating minor injuries including burns and wounds
  • Reading and assessing X-rays
  • Administering medications, including antibiotics
  • Recording ECG examinations
  • Discharging patients when appropriate
ENP Role requirements
  • NMC registration
  • Recent 6 months experience within the last 12 months
  • Completion of V300 prescribing certificate
  • Full EPP clearance of immunisations
  • Two clinical references covering the last 3 years of work history
