Job description

Maldon Vets for Pets are looking for an experienced, motivated and enthusiastic veterinary surgeon to join our team on a permanent basis.

About us
Located within the pretty Heybridge basin, but within easy access to London, there are a multitude of outdoor and leisure activities on our doorstep. We have been serving the local community for 10 years.

Our fantastic team comprises 5 knowledgeable and friendly RVNs, 1 student RVN, 2 VCAs, 5 receptionists and 2.5 veterinary surgeons - 1 of which is a year 2 graduate.

We work closely and in collaboration with a visiting certificate holder in small animal surgery (including orthopaedics) and can deal with a wide case load in practice. Clinical freedom within your case load is strongly supported, and we work together as a close-knit team. Regular clinical meetings and in-house CPD take place to ensure we are all working together to a high standard.

Job Responsibilities
We see the full spectrum of first opinion (predominantly dog and cat case load, alongside some small furries and exotics) cases so vets can expect a surgical caseload to include but not be confined to:

  • Neutering
  • Mass removals
  • Dentistry
  • Basic ophthalmic surgery
  • Emergency surgery - such as pyometra, c section, foreign bodies, cystotomies
  • Surgical and non-surgical wound management

We have in-house laboratory capabilities, and diagnostics, including ultrasound, digital x-ray and multiparameter monitoring.

Ideally, you will be a small animal vet who is confident with routine medical and surgical cases and looking to progress in your career. We actively encourage all staff to develop their own areas of interest including support and funding to study further if so desired!

Working Hours
Most vets work between 9am - 7pm, consolidating their working hours to fulfil a 4-day working week, and a 1:4 weekend rota (Saturday 9am-6pm and Sunday 10am-4pm). Bank holiday cover is shared amongst the team.

We would consider a job share to accommodate part-time working.

We do not require out of hours work and dedicate our out of hours emergencies to Vets Now.

Benefits we can offer you
  • Attractive salary (dependant on experience/full-time equivalent)
  • Pension scheme
  • 224 hours annual leave (inclusive of bank holidays, based on a 40-hour week). Increasing to 264 hours after 2 years' service
  • Closed Christmas day and New Year's day!
  • PAH store staff discount, Vets4Pets staff discount, staff reward scheme
  • VDS/RCVS/BVA fees paid
  • CPD allowance

If you'd like any further information about this vacancy, the practice or our company please contact Laura from our Talent Acquisition team via email; eastvets@vets4pets.com for an informal and confidential conversation.

Alternatively, you can submit your application directly to us now and somebody will be in touch with you to discuss this further. We look forward to hearing from you!

Location: CM9 6TU
