Engineering Manager - Reactor Physics Performance

Reactor Engineering is responsible for the component design, substantiation, and safety case of most components of the reactor assembly, including the core, core structures, CRDMs, and the reactor assembly itself. The department's expertise includes design, physics, performance, materials, and structural integrity.

What you will be doing

This Band C role reports to the Head of Reactor Engineering in the Future Programmes DBU. Responsibilities include:

  1. Leading a team of about 50 engineers and physicists, managing wellbeing, recruitment, team structure, absence, and performance.
  2. Owning and delivering multiple complex work programmes ensuring the safe operation of the UK Naval Nuclear programme, with delegated governance authority.
  3. Defining and implementing long-term strategies for technical capability development, engaging with government, academia, and industry partners.
  4. Continuously improving products, services, and processes for cost, quality, and delivery benefits.
  5. Being a role model for Rolls-Royce values and behaviors.

  • Possess broad engineering skills, especially in core design, verification, development, and manufacturing.
  • Be an excellent communicator with proven stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Understand Intellectual Property and Export Control requirements.
  • Be familiar with Rolls-Royce product safety processes.
